Judge’s Statement

Thank you for trusting me to present the awards for the 2022 Sun Bowl Exhibit. As always, this is a difficult job as there are so many works that deserve recognition and contribute to the success of the show.

As a judge I do look carefully for competencies in both craft and aesthetics. The artist’s personal creative vision, whether about concept, innovation, expression or aesthetics should reflect the highest level of artistic endeavor. Has the artist’s personal choices of artistic language clarified and enriched their vision. Is there a careful balance between form and content? Does the artist show a mastery of their medium? Is the authentic contant thoughtfully delivered? Does the work display originality and uniqueness? As I walk through the show I try to find the works that reflect the criteria mentioned in my judge’s statement.

Congratulations to all the artists and thank each of you for your contribution to the success of the 2022 Sun Bowl Exhibit
