Artist Statement
“The tradition in which I work is the impressionist school of oil painting. Unlike other “schools” or vogues of painting, Impressionism is a full blown comprehensive school of art and its energy has never been exhausted. I consider my work to be an extension of the impressionist school. The direction in which my work has taken me, again, involves giving primacy to color, of allowing color to evoke form, rather than form dictating color. Monet, Sisley, Pissaro are the painters whose work I attempted to build upon. It is their work that has laid the foundation and it is the great strength of that work that has given me the freedom to pursue their tradition and I pursue it in gratitude and joy.” – Alberto Escamilla
